Bentham is a small vibrant rural town with plenty of independent shops, cafes and pubs on the high street. There is also a small super market to pick up supplies. These are all easily reachable on foot from the cottage, and most venues around Bentham are dog-friendly. There is a bus stop across the road and a train station a couple of minutes walk away if you wish to travel by public transport.
There are some great walks you can take from the doorstep, including a lovely riverside walk. A little further away is the 3 peaks area of the Yorkshire Dales, reachable by car within 10 mins. Here you can tackle the peaks of Pen-Y-Ghent, Ingleborough or Whernside. If you are brave enough you can take on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, where you complete those 3 mountains in 12 hours! We are around 15 minutes by car from the start point at Chapel-le-Dale, or 20 minutes from the alternative start point at Horton in Ribblesdale.
40 minute drive to Yorkshire Dales National Park.
For a more sedate day the nearby market towns of Ingleton, Clapham, Kirkby Lonsdale and Settle are all within easy reach.
